Dialed is an independent tool that pairs an espresso machine with a grinder that can actually keep up with it. It is run by one person, not a retailer, and it stocks nothing.
Who writes this. I go by Lin. I am a mechanical engineer by trade — my working life is spent reading specifications, checking tolerances, and working out why two parts that should mate do not. Espresso gear turns out to be full of the same problem: a machine described as “54 mm” that will not take a 54 mm tamper, a portafilter one millimetre off the standard. That is the skill I brought here, and it is the only expertise I claim.
What that means for you — the honest version. I am not a barista and I am not a taste reviewer. I cannot tell you which machine pulls a sweeter shot, because I have not pulled shots on all of them. What I can do is be rigorous about the things that are verifiable: which portafilter your machine takes, which tamper actually seats in a tapered basket, which grinder is a genuine step up rather than a marketing one. Where the answer is a measurable fact, I will get it right and show you the source. Where it is a matter of taste, I will point you to people who own the hardware.
What Dialed is based on. Recommendations are a structured synthesis of long-standing community consensus — primarily the r/espresso and Home-Barista communities — across the whole market, not a single shop’s catalogue.
What Dialed does not do — stated plainly. We do not currently own these machines and we do not perform first-hand testing, teardowns, or measurements. Nothing here should be read as a hands-on review. If you want first-hand testing, seek out reviewers who own the hardware; we link to community sources instead of pretending otherwise.

The diagrams — stated plainly. Since we do not own this hardware, we cannot photograph it. The cut-away illustrations on this site are therefore AI-rendered schematics, not photographs, and we would rather tell you that than have you work it out. Every one of them was drawn to a specification we had already verified, then checked back against manufacturer documentation and the sources cited on the page. Where a diagram exaggerates something to make it visible — the wall angle on a tapered basket, for instance — the caption says so and gives the real figure. Charts that depend on exact proportions, such as the bore-size comparison, are drawn as vector graphics instead, because an image generator cannot be trusted to hold a one-millimetre ratio.
